"COPYWRITING HAS CHANGED"
Hello, I'm Mike Searles, Freelance Copywriter at your service...
It is true. I can tell you copywriting today is different to before. It has changed.
Today my writing for clients is held up by three core drivers or legs ... like the legs of a tri-pod or a three-legged stool.
These three drivers determine the 'what' and 'how' of the message I am communicating for my client.
Today sales copy needs to be:
But don't get me wrong.
The 'why' we need written copy for selling, marketing, advertising and promoting our products, services and ideas is a 'why' carved in granite.
We will continue to need copywriting and the sales copy it produces to communicate our marketing messages for as long as human psychology remains as it is.
But the change that makes copywriting what it is today is all about the 'what' and 'how'.
What we say and how we say it in writing for commerce today is a whole new ball-game compared to say when I was a boy ... I'm guessing around forty to fifty years ago.
'Fifty years ago!!! What are you? A dinosaur?'
Ha-ha, very funny you! Forget fifty years of change. Thirty. Twenty.
Copywriting has needed to change even in the past ten years.
Was anybody writing copy for social networking 10 years ago?
Maybe the mavericks and fan-boys ahead of their time were posting to bulletin boards back then. But social media as we know it today was still a twinkle in the eye of the creators.
Friend, copywriting has changed. There is no doubt about it. And will continue to evolve as the medium changes.

What is COPYWRITING?
One definition reads -- copywriting is a sales presentation in writing.
Our services ... my services since I write all copy myself ... is copywriting in its various names and different hats.
But to help you put me into a frame of reference I market my services to the small-business owner who has never hired a copywriter.
It works this way --
If I have the opportunity to talk with you personally about your business and your marketing I will ask you these three questions:
What are you looking for?
Why is it important to your business?
Why is THAT important to YOU?
These three questions will help me get to the 'why behind the why' of your business goals and the deeply personal motivation behind those goals.
I have used this approach to consulting with huge success when I was the manager of a team of sales consultants creating radio advertising campaigns.
It remains to this day a proven approach to working with clients.
Can I Sell?
Yes, I can sell.
I won't pull out the brag-file (not yet anyway).
I have been taught what works and how it works in writing sales copy.
Further to that I know I can can trust my own instinct and intuition. Sometimes it comes down to plain old common sense.
Yes I can sell and I do so in writing.
With a background of over twenty-five years selling in offline markets (medical, pharmaceutical, print media, radio advertising, human resources)...
... and online Internet Marketing projects since 2007 (blogging, social media, affiliate marketing, list building, content creation, podcasting, e-books, production, publishing)...
... my understanding on the core parts of effective selling is stronger than average.
I know selling.
But Can I REALLY Sell In Writing?
Yes -- and getting better every week.

In this short video (less than a minute) you will see me talking straight to camera.
I wrote the copy/script for the video. Every word, pause and sentence was chosen for a reason. Build a list. Collect names and email addresses. It worked well.
In this example the subscribers were red hot prospects for buying ... and buy they did.

One of my Internet projects is content creation by interviewing experts.
If you are not a copywriter but you do create your own content for a blog, website, social network or article site then I highly recommend interviewing people with wisdom to share.
Varied authors, experts and other interesting people with a true story have shared their experiences and wisdom with me during a recorded phone hook-up interview.
I call them Webcast Interviews and hope you find one or two of interest.
